  • People who gathered their food were known as “gatherers“.
  • Sulaiman and Kirthar hills are located in North-West.
  • Rice was first grown in the north of the Vindhyas.
  • About 2,500 years ago, cities developed on the banks of river Ganga.
  • The word India comes from the Indus, called Sindhu in Sanskrit.
  • Iranians and Greeks called the river Indus as Indos or Hindos and the land to the east of the river was called India.
  • The earliest composition in Sanskrit is Rigveda.
  • Rigveda was composed about 3,500 years ago.
  • Manuscripts were written on palm leaf or bark of birch, which grows in Himalaya.
  • Manuscripts were written in Sanskrit, Prakrit and Tamil.
  • Inscriptions are writings on relatively hard surfaces such as stone or metal.
  • Scripts consists of signs or letters.
  • Those who study the remains of buildings made of stone and brick are called archaeologist.
  • The scholars who study past are called Historians.
