Ans: The monkey was happy living in the fruit tree, but he was lonely and wanted a companion to talk to and share fruits with. But there was no one around, not even another monkey.

Ans: The two friends talked about birds and animals, the villages nearby and the difficulty villagers faced in raising good crops for lack of rain.

Ans: The crocodile’s wife was annoyed with her husband one day because the crocodile stayed with the monkey longer than usual. She was tired of managing the little crocodiles that had just been hatched.

Q.4: Why was the crocodile unwilling to invite his friend home ?

Ans: The crocodile was unwilling to invite his friend home because his wife would eat him.

Q.5: What did the crocodile tell the monkey midstream ?

Ans: At the midstream, the crocodile told the monkey that he had brought him there to kill him. He told the monkey that his wife could not survive without eating his heart.

Q.6: How did the monkey save himself ?

Ans: The monkey was clever and sensible. He kept his head cool. He told the crocodile that he would do anything for his family. He further said that monkey’s heart is nothing compared to the crocodile’s wife. But then he told crocodile that he forgot his heart on the tree, so they returned to the tree. On reaching the river bank, the monkey climbed on the tree quickly and thus saved himself from the crocodile.

Q.7: What does the last sentence of the story suggest ? What would the crocodile tell his wife ?

Ans: The last sentence suggest that the crocodile felt sorry for what he did to the monkey. He was angry at his wife for ruining his friendship with the monkey. He hurried home to tell his wife a thing or two.
